Description: Tagar, also known as Indian Valerian, is a perennial herb that grows up to 45-100 cm in height. It has a short, thick, and aromatic rhizome. The leaves are opposite, pinnate, and have a serrated margin. The flowers are small, white or pinkish, and are borne in dense clusters. The plant emits a strong, distinct aroma due to its volatile oils.
Occurrence: Tagar is native to the Himalayan region and is commonly found in India, Pakistan, Nepal, and Bhutan. It typically grows in temperate and sub-alpine zones at altitudes ranging from 1200 to 3000 meters. It prefers moist, shaded, and well-drained soils.
