Comprehensive Ayurvedic Analysis of Afsanteen (Artemisia absinthium)
Afsanteen, botanically known as Artemisia absinthium and commonly referred to as wormwood, is a perennial herb renowned for its bitter taste and potent medicinal properties. While it holds a prominent place in Unani medicine, its applications and relevance in Ayurveda are noteworthy, especially concerning its anthelmintic (Krimighna) properties.
Ayurvedic Perspective on Krimi Roga
In Ayurveda, “Krimi Roga” encompasses diseases caused by various parasites, both macroscopic (external) and microscopic (internal). These parasites can reside in different parts of the body, leading to a range of symptoms depending on their location and type.
Pathogenesis (Samprapti)
The imbalance of doshas, especially Kapha and Pitta, combined with the accumulation of Ama (toxins), creates a conducive environment for the proliferation of parasites. This leads to various manifestations, including gastrointestinal disturbances, skin issues, and systemic symptoms.
Role of Afsanteen in Krimi Roga
Afsanteen’s bitter taste (Tikta Rasa) and hot potency (Ushna Virya) make it effective in:
Destroying parasites (Krimighna)
Digesting Ama (Amapachana)
Stimulating digestive fire (Deepana)
Purifying the blood (Raktashodhaka)
